This tour departs from Füssen at 9:15 a.m. Mondays and Fridays, and heads through the border tunnel into Austria and through the mountainous Reutte district to Ehrwald, where we board the cable car for our trip to the summit of Mount Zugspitze.
MOUNT ZUGSPITZE is Germany's
highest mountain - 2,962 metres or 9,718 feet - and it sits on the border between Germany and Austria.
The observation areas straddle the two countries.
The views from here are spectacular. Walk around the viewing platforms and have a hot chocolate inside
in one of the Panorama restaurants, or outside if it's warm enough.
From Zugspitze you have breathtaking views across the tops of peaks
of the Alps. On fine days you can enjoy views of four
countries – Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.

We continue via Garmisch-Partenkirchen to LINDERHOF CASTLE, King Ludwig II's beautiful palace tucked away in the mountains. This most elegant of Ludwig's creations was built between 1870 and 1879, in an elaborate rococo style recalling the Bourbon Kings. This is the only one of Ludwig's own creations where he lived for any appreciable period of time.
We tour inside the palace and the Venus Grotto illustration of the first act of Wagner’s Tannhaeuser with a local castle guide.
And you have time to go for a stroll in the formal gardens.

Our next stop is picturesque OBERAMMERGAU, the village internationally famous for the Passion Play which it mounts every ten years in thanks for being spared during the bubonic plague .
Oberammergau is also famous for the "Lüftlmalerei," or frescoes, of traditional Bavarian themes, fairy tales, or religious scenes that are found on many homes and buildings.
Oberammergau has a long tradition of woodcarving, and the streets of the town are home to dozens of woodcarver shops and Christmas shops.

Our final stop is at WIESKIRCHE, the Church in the Meadow, an oval rococo church built between 1745 and 1754 as a shrine for a new sacred pilgrimage site.
The Church in the Meadow actually is in a remote rural setting, in a meadow, with horses grazing nearby.
The interior is decorated with frescoes and elaborate stuccowork. The Wieskirche underwent extensive restoration between 1985 and 1991, and is the only monument in the region on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.

We return home via the famous Romantic Road route, and arrive back in Füssen at about 6 p.m.
