Rüdesheim sits at the southern end of the Rhine Gorge. Drosselgasse shopping and restaurant street in Rudesheim Vineyards on the hills date from the 6th century. We're cruising on the Rhine, through the UNESCO World Heritage zone. Typical small village along the Rhine Ruine Ehrenfels, above the Rhine and the vineyards The Ehrenfels ruins date from 1210. Burg Rheinstein, 13th century The Pfalz, a mid-river toll castle, erected in 1328 The Lorelei Rock, bad news for careless sailors St. Goar, between Rüdesheim and Koblenz Burg Katz, opposite St. Goar, dates from 1360. Burg Eltz is a medieval castle above a tributary to the Moselle. Burg Eltz, owned by the original family since 1157 Burg Eltz interior Cochem, on the Moselle, dominated by Cochem Castle Heidelberg, on the Neckar, settled by Celts about 800 BC Defensive gate on the Old Stone Bridge Heidelberg Castle dates from the 15th century. Wars brought repeated destructions of the castle. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is an amazingly well-preserved medieval town. The ancient fortification wall encircling Rothenburg is still in tact.
