Bavarian Highlights Day Tour
Neuschwanstein, Wieskirche, Oberammergau and Linderhof
We go first to Hohenschwangau village, for an inside visit of Germany's most famous castle, Neuschwanstein, with a local castle guide. Built in the period from 1869 to 1876, it has become one of the major landmarks of Bavaria.
We leave Hohenschwangau for a short ride to the famous Wieskirche (Church in the Meadow) for a visit to the stunning rococo interior. It is the only monument in the region on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
On to Oberammergau, the beautiful Passion Play village below the mountains that’s known for its house frescos (Lueftl painting), woodcarvers, and Christmas shops.

Wieskirche
You have free time to have a bite to eat, to explore on your own, and to shop for great souvenirs.
Our next stop is Linderhof, Ludwig’s beautiful palace tucked away in the mountains built between 1870 and 1879, in an elaborate rococo style recalling the Bourbon Kings, where Ludwig lived for several years.
We tour inside the palace with a local castle guide, and your have time to go for a stroll in the formal gardens. (The Grotto is closed for extensive restoration until summer 2025.)

Mount Zugspitze and Innsbruck Day Tour
Zugspitze and Innsbruck, with Swarovski or Hofburg
From Füssen we go through the border tunnel into Austria and through the mountainous Reutte district to Ehrwald. A cable car takes us to the top of Mount Zugspitze, at 2,962 metres or 9,718 feet. It sits on the border between Germany and Austria, and the observation areas straddle the two countries.
Walk around the viewing platforms and have a hot chocolate inside in one of the Panorama restaurants or outside if it's warm enough. From Zugspitze you have breathtaking views across the tops of peaks of the Alps. On fine days you can enjoy views of four countries – Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
We drive over the Fernpass down into the Inn valley to Innsbruck, the capital of the Tyrol.

Enjoy a walk through Innsbruck's quaint medieval lanes, see the little Golden Roof in front of the Karwendel Mountains, and the fine Baroque Church. We have time here for lunch, some exploring on your own, or perhaps shopping.
Afternoon Option # 1 at 2 pm:
Receive a ticket for an inside tour through the Hofburg
(Imperial Palace), built by Empress Maria Theresa.
Imposing furniture, large portraits, and elaborate chandeliers fill
the sumptuous rooms.
Afternoon Option # 2 at 2 pm:
A short bus ride to Wattens for a tour of the famous
Swarowski Kristallwelten (Crystal World), the
crystal-themed indoor theme park of the world's luxury brand of
precision-cut crystal glass.

Lake Constance and its Islands Day Tour
Lake Constance, Lindau and Mainau
First we drive through south-western Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg to Lindau on Lake Constance. Lindau is an ancient walled city on a near-shore island in eastern Lake Constance, whose narrow streets speak to its age. Stroll along beautiful Maximilianstrasse, take your pictures of the unusual town hall, walk the little narrow streets, and the lakeside Promenade, where you will find great places for lunch.
We continue along the northern shore of Lake Constance, through one of the most colorful and fertile regions of Germany, to Meersburg, where we board a ferry to cross the lake to Konstanz, the city that gave the Lake its name. From here it is a very short ride to the Island of Mainau, the jewel in the lake.
Lindau
Lakeside Promenade, Lindau
Mainau is a 45 hectare / 111 acre garden island in west Lake Constance, and a paradise for plant enthusiasts because even tropical flowers grow in the mild climate. Mainau employs 350 gardeners and support staff during the flowering season.
Palm trees grow here, oranges and other exotic treasures. Mainau's gardeners create formal gardens and dramatic floral sculptures. The flower beds glow from March until September in exotic colours, changing with the seasons. In spring the tulips are in bloom, and in the palm house the orchid show invites. In summer the roses fill with enthusiasm, as do the dahlias in autumn.
Mainau includes a palace, a charming baroque church, gardens, sculptures, park land, a children's zoo, and a playground.

Accommodation Arrangements
Castles Tours will be happy to assist in making accommodation arrangements in the Fussen area.
One option is the Landhaus Kössel, the 4-star Bavarian country hotel in Hopfen am See which Castles Tours uses as the home base for its multi-day Bavarian Castles and Christmas Markets tours. This is a typical local "Landhaus" where you are a friend, not a tourist. The rooms and apartments are spacious and comfortable, decorated in Bavarian country style, all with cable TV, telephone, high speed internet, refrigerator, extra sitting area, balcony, and a great mountain view.
Guests of the Landhaus do not need to travel to the tour origination point. They will be picked up at the Landhaus and returned there at the end of the day.
Castles Tours will also be happy to make arrangements at any of the other fine hotels in the area.
