Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle overlooks the Alsatian plain. Haut-Koenigsbourg dates from 1147. Ribeauville, one of the towns on the Alsatian Wine Route Riquewihr, on the Wine Route Kayserberg, also on the Wine Route Strasbourg is the major centre of Alsace. Colmar was founded in the 9th century. Colmar architecture is both German and French. Freiburg is a major Black Forest centre. Freiburg dates from the early 12th century. Lake Titisee, surrounded by the dense ('black') forest Hohenzollern Castle sits atop Mt. Hohenzollern. Hohenzollern was reconstructed in the 19th century.
